This school year has seen another success for the YPI scheme in the 13s. Split into groups, pupils have researched a social issue that impacts upon their area of London and is of interest to them.
They have then found a local, grass-root charity that engages with this particular issue and seeks to improve the local community. Rather than just donating to their charities, the groups of pupils have visited, helped and interviewed those who manage them.
They have organised events such as fun runs, cakes sales and mufti day to raise money for their chosen charities and together they collected £4000 in total. The scheme culminated in these groups making presentations about the charity they have become involved in. The best group from each form proceeded to the Grand Final where they presented to a panel of judges consisting of Mr Hooke, Reza Beyad and three local members of the business community.
The winners were the team from 13F (Francesco Paschetto, Cara Jameson, Anthea Themistocleous, Max Cranmer, Christian McNaught), representing the Impact Theatre Company, and the runners-up were the team from 13N (Josif Tsepov, Lizzie Melville, Georgie Mullock, Kassem Bassatne, Rory Lewis) representing Small steps. Their charities won £3000 and £1000 respectively.
